The name for the town of Ball Ground comes
from a Cherokee Indian ball playing site located
somewhere in the vicinity. Click the link below to
read the history of the county. Its best-known
industry for many years was marble working. The
stone we mine at Ball Ground Quarry consists of
a fine to medium grained, blue-gray impure
marble.
Ball Ground Quarry is located in northern
Cherokee County, one of the fastest growing
communities in our state. A subdivision of
upscale homes was recently built along part of
our southern boundary, while a more established
neighborhood occupies the southwest corner
along a section of our property line.
According to a Cherokee County website, "(In
1995), Ball Ground has approximately 1000
residents, but with its proximity to both Cherokee
and Pickens Counties, it continues to grow and
thrive." As anyone familiar to the area will attest,
the growth in the area is phenomenal.
At Lafarge Aggregates Southeast, we're proud to
be "contributing to building a better world for our
communities."
