When you tap on the large rock next to this
settling pond at the Columbus Quarry, the
catfish know it's time to eat!

Columbus Quarry has worked hard to ensure
the water passing through the site is clean.
Some of the steps taken include:
  • sediment ponds and rip rap berms
have been installed to filter sediment
before it reaches the final discharge
    pond
  • water pH and sediment are strictly
    monitored
  • an oil/water separator was installed to
prevent oil from reaching ponds or
    streams
  • aboveground fuel storage tanks with
    secondary containment prevent
    accidental releases of fuel.

The results are easy to see. The pond and
water in it is clean and healthy. Our water
quality is consistently better than our permit
requires.

This is one way that Lafarge Aggregates
Southeast is realizing our vision of "being the
best."
