As a charter member of the Environmental Protection Agency's Performance Track program, Lafarge Aggregates Southeast's Douglasville Quarry is in a very elite group who have made a commitment to going beyond environmental compliance and what is legally required of them. A keystone of the program is an environmental management system (EMS) that helps set the course for achieving continual environmental improvements.
Goals are established and monitored. Some of the "beyond compliance" goals that have been reached include reductions in: greenhouse gases by using alternate fuels, dust from our operations by installing stockpile sprays and relocating a crusher, electrical usage by implementing an energy management system, and waste by handling a by-product in an innovative manner to make a usage product. Environmental improvement projects that are currently underway include wildlife habitat improvement, wetland enhancement and preservation, and water quality improvements.
By striving for continual improvement in the way we do business, Lafarge Aggregates Southeast is doing our part in being "the undisputed world leader in building materials."
