Morgan County Quarry recently won a
national award for beautification and
environmental projects that have been
completed at the site. The National
Stone, Sand and Gravel Association
presented Morgan County with the
"Show Place" Award for improvements
such as planting a berm with wildflowers,
paving the entrance road to reduce dust
from truck traffic, displaying a nicely
landscaped entrance, and planting
flowers around the lab building.

Morgan County is also involved in the
Wildlife Habitat Council. Plans are
underway to construct an outdoor
classroom and nature walk within a
buffer area that contains woodlands,
grasslands, wetlands, a pond, and a
stream that's located adjacent to the
plant site. This will show how the quarry
can co-exist with nature and will provide
an educational experience for local
schools and other groups that want to
learn about this diverse environment.
